This course is designed to actively help children develop their comprehension skills. It differs from other materials on the market by carefully balancing the need to show, demonstrate and instruct children with the need for children to have a go and actually write answers. It is fully structured and planned, and delivered in four parts. See the preview for a good idea of what’s included.
What’s included?
✓ Comprehension exercises using classic texts to get children used to the hardest texts they could face in the 11 Plus exam. Our exercises ask children to write their answers, rather than answering in multiple-choice format.
✓ Over 100 questions providing coverage of the top ten question areas children will come across.
✓ Advice on dealing with the technical aspects of questions, such as: whether to repeat the question in your answer, how many points examiners are looking for you to make, and how to include quotations when these are asked for.
✓ Exercises to help children improve their reading speed and accuracy.
✓ 5 x 60-minute full comprehension tests, comprising a long text followed by 40 questions per paper, designed to replicate the toughest comprehension tests children will face in any 11 Plus entry, even for the most difficult schools.
✓ Full answers with detailed explanations.

When should pupils start this course?
This course is split into four parts. Most families use it either as a short, sharp improvement exercise over four weeks or in a more gentle way taking two weeks over each part of the course. As with any of our courses, the more time you can give to it, the more progress you will see. When you choose to start the course may depend on what your child is preparing for:
Grammar School entrance tests only
Children only going for a Grammar School test most often use this course during the summer when they have already done some preparation. The course helps them move their skills to a new level.
Independent School entrance tests only
Children only going for an Independent School test use it during the period September – January as a boost to give themselves the best chance, or a chance of a bursary or scholarship.
Both Grammar School and Independent School entrance tests
Children sitting both types of test typically use this course in the period September – January to further boost their skills.
SATs
We find that bright children doing SATs and looking for improvement use this course to good effect in the period from January – May. As SATs tests include written answers, this course can help children go for the very highest marks.
